Farms of four Godbout brothers (am_2337)

Click to enlargeAbraham Godbout and his wife Georgiana Labrie from Saint-Éloi came to live in Drummond with their little family around 1882. Abraham worked for a McCluskey, then in 1895, became owner of lot 9 on Ennishone Road and lot 310 at the division between lots. Abraham and his wife had many children. Their eldest son Joseph married Claudia Rousseau and became owner of the family land. Paul (married to Pamela Plourde), Onésime (Estelle Plourde, Marie Deschênes) and Cyprien (Alice Gagnon) became the owners of lot 8,7,and 6 respectively. Their houses and farm buildings are from right to left that of Joseph, Paul, Onésime and Cyprien. Facing them, on the other side of the road is the Godbout school. These farms were inherited or bought from father to son. Joseph's farm was passed on to his son Adélard (married to Eva Desjardins) and then to Adelard's son Ovide (Rose-Aimée Gagnon). Paul's farm went to his son Fernand (Marcella Beaulieu) and Onésime's went to Rolland (Dolorès Cyr). Photo taken around 1960. Lent by the Godbout family.
