Aroostook and the Franciscan Fathers (am_809)

Click to enlargeIn 1921, the Bishop of Chatham invited the Franciscan Fathers to come and serve the Catholic parishes of his diocese located in the region of the Tobique River. The church and their monastery opened in 1926. The Franciscan Fathers lived at the monastery or at the nearby parishes, that is to say Red Rapids, Plaster Rock and Blue Bell (from 1921 to 1958), Tilley (from 1921 to 1990), Ste. Anne of Maliseet (from 1921 to 1989), Anderson Road (from 1934 to 1958), Aroostook (from 1922 to 1986), Juniper (from 1939 to 1948), Perth-Andover (from 1945 to 1981), Limestone Siding (from 1923 to 1986, and later from 1989 to 1990).
