Potato harvest at the Michauds (am_2294)
During the 1930's, the truck or tractor replaced the horses for the work on the farm, the
transportation of potatoes, wood and other goods. The flatbed of this International Harvester truck
is not very high so it is easy for the men who load the potato barrels by hand. In the centre of the
photo is Yvon Michaud, the owner of the family farm which he inherited from his father Joseph. Women
also help to harvest whether as a picker or driving the truck. Seen by the soil on their knees, the
two men at the left and the boy sitting on the mud-guard are potato pickers. Photo around 1930. Lent
by the Michaud family.
