Yvonne and Lucien Beaulieu's house (am_2326)

Click to enlargeLucien S. Beaulieu and Yvonne Lavoie were married in 1933 and later bought the farm on lot 120 on Tobique Road. The big house had been built by Michel Michaud, in the beginning of the 20th century. In Drummond, the farmers residences are quite big, as much space was needed for the numerous children. Also, the old people who would not accept to go to a Home, lived at one or the other of their descendants. Thus, Abraham Lagacé and Hermine Bard, Lucien's grandparents lived with Lucien and Yvonne for several years between 1935 and 1940. Lucien was a potato grower and shipper and also raised milking cows, pigs and poultry. The old barn on his land was blown away by the wind in the winter of 1946 and a frolic took place to build a bigger one. Lucien renovated the interior of the house and built a big potato house in 1947. When potato growing and shipping became a good source of revenue, Lucien acquired modern agricultural machinery and bought a second piece of land. Finally the interior of the house was renovated in 1955. Photo taken in 1955. Lent by the Beaulieu family.
