This was quite an experience for me! What could I tell these little people about astronomy that they would understant?
Was I ever impressed! Carole had prepared them so well... They already knew the names of the planets, their position in our Solar System, the number of Moon for each planet, thatthe colors of the stars was due to their temperature, Chris Hadfield, our hero Canadian astronaut who had just recently helped install the Canadarm on the Space Station Alpha...!
I was also very amazed to find out that these little ones had used the scientific approach to problem solving: first the question, the hypothesis, the research and the answers which were part of the talk. It was quite an experience!
During noon recess, we got a glimpse at the Sun through 11x80 binoculars, using a solar filter. We were not able to see the giant Sun Spot because of the thin clouds but we could see the Sun as a big disk.
I admire very much their teacher for allowing young students realize that Science can be a fun and wonderful learning experience!
